OK, so retired police captains' daughter and the son of two prosecutors brands woman's ex with an "R". It is claimed that they didn't know what the R stood for, but I suspect they did. What do you think?

NYC woman gets 5 years for branding ex-lover
By SAMUEL MAULL

Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - A college student who branded a former lover's body with a scalding piece of metal as payback for never calling her after they had sex was sentenced to five years in prison Friday.

Kristina Caban, 23, had no comment as state Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus sentenced her for what he called a crime that was "not remotely justifiable."

Assistant District Attorney Nicole Blumberg told Obus that Caban was the "mastermind behind the plan" to sear the torso of Samir "Sammy" Sara, then 23, for having sex with her once in 2004 and never calling her again.

Caban enlisted new boyfriend Robert Testagrossa to help brand a four-inch-high "R" on Sara's abdomen in October 2006, the prosecutor said. She said Caban lured the former lover to a hotel room, where Testagrossa and another man grabbed him.

I'm glad her attorney talked to the press and let us know that in fact this girl is a "good kid." Had he not spoken up, I would have been left with the impression that she was a monster.

In the old British navy, an "R" in the ship's books meant a sailor had "run" or deserted the ship.

That's pretty harsh. Back at TCU when we wrote with a quill and an ink bottle one of the women's dorms had a "B****** Bush." When a foolsih young man treated a lady poorly his name was hung on a tree like a Christmas decoration....and he got no dates from any of the ladies until he had made peace with the offended damsel. Some of my dear friends had a tough time due to that cursed shrub.

Maybe it stood for Refridgerator list. Two women roomies I know used to put the names of suiters who had fallen from grace on a list that hung on the Refridgerator, hence the name "The Fridge List".

The purpose of the Fridge list was to inform the other roomie who calls were not being accepted from, due to some breach in proper dating behavior.
