The general waiting period for Regular Needs males is about three to four
months.

The waiting period for Special Needs males is about four to six months.

The waiting period for Regular Needs females is about three to four months.

The waiting period for Special Needs females is about five to seven months.

The duration of the SAFPF Program is generally six months for Regular Needs and eight to ten months for Special Needs.

However, if their compliance is not satisfactory, they may be required to stay longer or ultimately be discharged unsuccessfully.

Once they complete the SAFPF portion of the program, they then go to a Transitional Treatment Center (TTC) or halfway house. They are given a list of the numerous halfway houses located throughout the State of Texas. The defendant is allowed to list five halfway house choices with choice number one being the first house he or she would like to assigned for continued treatment. If SAFPF cannot get them into their first choice, they move on down the list to their second, third and so on. (THERE ARE NO TTCs in San Antonio).

Once at their TTC, they are generally there for a period of 90 days (Depending on compliance).

Upon successful completion of the TTC-halfway house program, the offender is allowed to relocate to his or her new area of treatment and recovery (city where halfway house is located or elsewhere).

Regardless of where the defendant elects to reside following the completion of the halfway house program, he or she will be required to attend six to nine months of aftercare counseling.

Thanks to the recent increase in SAFPF funding, the wait is down to 5 weeks for males and 11 weeks for females.
