Those folks that make you gulp ever so slightly (or who you would recommend to a family member arrested for DWI - God forbid!)
5. Richard McConathy

I'm interested in your feedback or lists so I know who to watch out for! Eek

hmmm..no prosecutors want to admit to any "gulping" upon noting a particular defense attorney involved in a case? Sorry, I just had to pipe up because this made me laugh. Friend, you aren't going to get any answers to this question!!

Maybe one of the defense law forums might work better for this question from the legal assistant.

I've never seen much gulping going on in fear of skilled dwi defense lawyers. Some hearty laughs from those who like to call themselves DWI specialists a few years out of law school maybe, but no gulps.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not trying to perpetuate any myths that certain defense attorneys are superhuman, but for example, I've seen some statements here that Gary Trichter (his methods aside) is taken to be one of the toughest in Houston. And I'm curious about the toughest ones you've encountered up here in the prairie kingdom.

Your points are taken though, kind of thinking out loud here.... Big Grin

The defense lawyers that make me "gulp" are the incompetent ones. That's what really makes me fearful.

I am thrilled to go up against a highly skilled attorney: There is no shame if you lose, a certain degree of pride when justice prevails, and, whatever the verdict, your always going to get a lesson on how to try a case.

+1 Good call.

I bet it makes our appellate brothers and sisters even more happy when that record lands on their desk.

Very true, Greg! I'm much happier to see a record from an excellent (heck, a competent Wink) defense attorney. And I know I'd also rather go up against a defense brief that's well-written any day of the week, even if I might lose, than face one that's sloppy, disjointed, and using outdated law.

I think the bottom line is that we like good defense lawyers, because with them we can just do our job instead of trying to do both!
