I am giving a presentation in the near future on mental health commitments, particularly the paperwork and procedures involved. It will address both commitments related to a criminal case as well as civil commitments. I would be interested in finding out what questions or issues you have in dealing with this topic. Contact me either through this forum, or call me or e-mail me with any input. Thanks.

As Assistant County Attorney I often have law enforcement and JPs ask me how or if they can initiate some sort of MHMR procedure to investigate a person's status. I think these situations stem from minor brushes with the law that some old people who live out in the County have. The person is in solitude most of the time until they slip into some level of dementia thereby often breaking the law on some minimal level. The JPs & law enforcement discover that the person needs help but doesn't know what to do or who to call from that point.
