[A very well-phrased statement to the media, recognizing the ethical restraints placed on a prosecutor at the investigative stage.]

D.A. won't reopen Southlake case; other allegations go forward

The Tarrant County District Attorney's office announced today that it will not reopen the criminal case involving five Southlake teens arrested for attempted criminal tresspassing. To do so would be double jeopardy.

However, the D.A. will investigate allegations that the Southlake Police Department habitually favored prominent citizens, which were brought to the D.A's attention by department police officers. A decision will be made by a grand jury.

"The D.A.s office emphasizes that at this time they do not know and certainly do not accuse anyone of violating the law, but as a matter of due diligence will investigate matters brought to its attention," pre-trial division cheif Kurt Stallings said. "We can not comment on any of the details at this time, as it is pending grand jury investigation, and because of both fairness and ethical consideration.
