Ok, can anyone explain the formulas behind parole dates?

For a non 3g offense an inmate receives good time and they can also receive work time in addition to good time?

I have spoken with representatives from the review and release office as well as the time calculation division of TDCJ. They were very polite, but indicated they didn't understand the exact formula and really couldn't explain it.
