As a former defense attorney, I've agreed that sometimes Texas laws or the application of the laws can be a little, shall we say, unbending. However, this week I talked to a couple (I'm the only lawyer in the office) who had just received a petition from Illinois ordering them and their daughter to be in court on the 28th where the daughter faced felony charges. The juvenile is 7 now and the petition alleges the felony occurred when she was 5! My daughter, brilliant though she is, could not remember things she did at the age of 5 two years later.

Umm. Wow. Is there an issue of restitution that the prosecutor is trying to get from the parents? Surely they aren't looking to put a 7 year old on probation...
