For Porn Star Lawyer, the Briefs Come Off at Night
The Associated Press
04-22-2005
Criminal defense attorney Ronald S. Miller does more than file his briefs -- he also takes them off.
Miller has spent days in front of a judge and nights in front of a camera as Don Hollywood -- porn star.
He has performed in more than 90 films in the past seven years, including "Justice Your Ass" and "The Jerry Shag-Her Show."
Miller, 56, tells his clients about his night job and says he has had no trouble balancing the two careers. His wife, a former accountant, is also a porn star.
"My whole life, I've been one of those people who sees the wet paint sign and has to go up and touch it to see if it's wet," said Miller, who is currently working on 30 to 40 cases. "I want to experience everything, try everything."
Ethics expert and attorney Arthur Margolis said Miller isn't breaking any rules moonlighting as a porn actor.
"There isn't anything more unethical about that than being an actor or a novelist or somebody who sells frozen yogurt," Margolis said. "The only thing you have to be careful of, as you would in any other industry, is you don't do anything criminal or unethical in the sense of dishonesty."
Diane Curtis, a spokeswoman for the California Bar Association, declined to comment on Miller's second career but said Wednesday the bar doesn't have a policy prohibiting such activity.

Scott Brumley... or maybe "Whopping Verdict" or "Excessive Force" or "Hung Jury." Who am I kidding? I'd be something more like "Ineffective Assistance" or "Petit Jury."

Kinda makes you wonder just how ol' Learned Hand came about with that name.

Shannon EdmondsI don't think anyone can improve on JMH's post!
That said, this quote kinda makes you wonder about our profession's ethics ...

BLeonardGeorge Costanza's "Buck Naked" is darn near impossible to top. I suppose
Against Penological Interest would be a worthwhile title for a flick starring George's alter ego. Of course, the tried and true formula is first dog's name and first street one lived on; in a case I am very familiar with it would be "Coco Forrest."

A.P. MerillatI thought I read in the Tattle Tale that Learned and some friends were going to open a cathouse once and, watch it now, - run it by hand - till they got some girls.

<Kevin Landtroop>Pet/street name combos are out now. These days, you have to have a physical location in the name--like Ron Mexico.

Gordon LeMaireOne of my classmates in law school was called Buck. Actually, his name was Eugene. We, of course, did not find out until graduation. At some point during the year we were discussing just this topic and everyone agreed that "Buck Naked" would have been a perfect name for a porn star.
