'Fact-finder' hired to investigate newspaper leak
Wednesday, December 14, 2005
City officials have hired an independent fact-finder to look into the disclosure of information to the Austin American-Statesman about a recommendation that police officer Julie Schroeder be fired for fatally shooting a suspect.
Charles Noll, a retired assistant Harris County district attorney, will be paid $250 an hour, officials said. He is expected to complete his work, which will include conducting interviews, next month.
The city hired Noll after the newspaper published a report in November describing recommendations that the police monitor's civilian group made. The Austin Police Association complained, saying the disclosure violated a contract with the city.
