Probationers who don't pay
Assuming they're doing everything else - reporting, not breaking the law, etc. - and have already been extended, what do you do? We've got one so far behind that the restitution center won't even take her. We used to terminate them, but our county auditor raises hell that we're leaving $ on the table. What $? She's unimpressed with my "can't get blood out of a stone/turnip" analogy.

As always, any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

If your County Auditor thinks she should have influence over what the District Attorney's Office chooses to do with criminal cases, you've got bigger problems than wishing for money that doesn't exist.

You aren't going to revoke them. You can't extend them any further. They have to be allowed to expire. You could look for creative ways to get them to contribute to your community.

You obviously haven't met our county auditor. Count your blessings.

I think it's something they are fed at their seminars...

My dad used to always say "son, you will have either time or money when you get big, never both." If they don't have money, they must have some time that you could use to do something constructive. They may find the money if they have to work as an alternative.

That is when you tell your county auditor if he/she thinks he/she can do better:

1. head to law school, &
2. run you next time....

otherwise there is the door.... Smile
