Reports and Office Management
Realize this forum is typically for substantive criminal law/procedure issues, but....are there any key reports that you DA's and CA's receive or create that are critical/necessary/helpful in your office management function? (Talking not about "people" management but workload management.)

In the military, we received a daily "police blotter" listing every police response, names, etc. This helped us track cases we were interested in. After several discussions with Sheriff, all we can get is list of who is in jail each day. (We rarely have more than 20...understand this would not be of interest to larger offices.)

We are too small and too broke to have a computerized case management system. What other options are some of the smaller offices using to keep up with business?

Mike,

We read the local papers in our 3 counties. They come out weekly, and always carry a story about who was arrested and for what. The cost is the cost of a subscription, which is not high, and ingratiates us with the newspapers' owners.

We have only one weekly and it does not report arrests or any other criminal justice matters (don't want to give the county a bad name?). They do publish the Sheriff's monthly report and my quarterly report. What do you do with the info on arrests?

The Sheriff's office sends over a daily copy of the inmate list and a copy of all bonds posted the day before. We input the bond information and the court date assigned on the bond to help keep track of incoming cases; if we have not received a new case after a certain period of time, we call the "arresting" agency to get the report sent over for purposes of grand jury or county court filing.
