Do Prosecutors Hate New Crimes?
One prosecutor contends so in this law review article:

Ohio St. Journal of Criminal Law: Why Prosecutors Hate New Crimes

Abstract:
New crimes have been popping up across America in recent years. Do prosecutors welcome these additions and extra charges or do the new crimes plague the daily life of a criminal attorney? If criminal prosecutors do not support adding criminal offenses to the law, who initiates new regulations and sustains them throughout the legislative process? Kyle Graham, a Deputy District Attorney in Mono County, California argues that prosecutors are not responsible for creating new crimes and in fact, do not welcome new offenses. His article explains Why Prosecutors Hate New Crimes.

Read and discuss ...

[p.s. - I spoke with Mr. Graham during his research for this article and am quoted in it.]

[p.p.s. - One great thing about this article is its brevity, so don't be scared off by the "law review" part ...]

Back in the Purge of 1993, prosecutors did their part in rewriting the Penal Code to eliminate the numerous duplicative and overly specific new crimes that had been introduced into the Penal Code over two decades. Should soon be time to purge again.
