Paying out fines in court
Our Constitutional County Judge generally allows defendants to pay out their fines. In the past, they have been paying at the Clerk's Office (the role of the Sheriff as recently discussed here notwithstanding). Because of a rash of non-payments, the Judge is considering requiring the defendants to make each payment IN COURT during regular docket calls. The defendantS would receive a re-set form requiring them to appear on a date certain to make the next payment. Any problems with this? If they fail to show, can they be arrested for FTA?

Mike, that's what we do with hot check writers who are out on bond. Each scheduled payment date is a scheduled court appearance, with the option of filing FTA as a consequence for not appearing.
