Canine Scent Evidence
Has anyone used canine scent evidence and/or canine scent lineups? We're considering using bloodhounds to compare scent pads from suspects to scent pads taken from a deceased person's clothing in a capital murder... Has anyone successfully used this or similar techniques and, more importantly, used it in the courtroom?

Does Winston v. State, 78 S.W.3d 522
(Tex.App.-Houston [14 Dist.],2002, pet ref'd) answer your question?

It's also cited by Criminal law: dog scent discrimination lineups, 63 A.L.R.4th 143, 4 (1988)

That ought to do it! Thanks, David. If we can ever help down here in the boondocks, don't hesitate to ask.

We use canine scent evidence in my county through the able assistance of the Fort Bend County Sheriff's office and their scent discriminating bloodhounds named Columbo and Quincy. However, since there is only a court of appeals opinion, we do not go forward unless there is additional evidence as to guilt.
