RandalPart Time or Temporary Help
I am interested in hiring part time or temporary employee (secretary) to assist on a backlog of cases. The Treasurer says Obamacare requires healthcare for all public employees part time or not.
Is that the case? I know private employees are not required.

A. DiamondThere have been some recent changes. A full-time employee for purposes of health care has been redefined to 30 hours a week, not 40. That makes a big difference in some counties, especially those where workers who did not regularly work 40 hours a week previously did not receive insurance benefits but those who did work 40 or more did receive insurance.

Meredith KennedyWe have started hiring all "temporary" employees through a staffing service, so they can provide insurance. We also lost an unemployment claim (before my time) on a "seasonal mower" when we told him up front the job was for 2 months only. We paid longer on unemployment than we did temporary wages. No more unemployment claims if you hire through agency.
