Lisa PetersonThe Smell of (Grease) Paint - the Roar of (the Crowd) a Conflict...
We are repainting the courthouse. Because the Commissioners are trying to keep it open at the same time, the work can only be done at night and on weekends.
Being a small community, there are few (reliable, sober) contractors; add the unusual hours and there are fewer willing to do the job.
One commissioner has a painting busines. His nephew has one also, and, when work is slow, works for the commissioner. Nephew is a) willing to work the hours; b) is sober c) works to the standard of his uncle (who is the reason work crews won't cut it...he's a perfectionist.)
Now...I know we need the Conflict of Interest statements...the contract is well below bid level, but would we be wise to do that anyway?
