John A. StrideAn appropriate opinion footnote?????
fn 3: "The burglary was not the only terrible thing that happened on that day. Tragically, the University of Texas lost this game."
For the entire opinion:
http://www.6thcoa.courts.state....asp?OpinionId=11592A refreshing bit of humanity. But not really tragic. More of a disappointment.

Martin PetersonPresumably the footnote referenced a fact outside the record, and therefore maybe not so appropriate, but it is common knowledge that a UT loss to OU is a damper on the trek to Dallas.
For those that have worked for a judge drafting opinions, you know that the writer always looks for an opportunity to write at least one sentence in the opinion that doesn't sound like the canned sort of legal-speak that typically appears in the law.

JohnRI dunno, some courts are more like: "We at the court of appeals have no sense of humor we are aware of."

Shannon EdmondsAppropriate? Absolutely! In fact, it ought to be an considered aggravating factor in punishment.
