More than homicide - a civil war?
There have been eight police officers killed in the Juarez area since Dec. 14. More than 140 people have been killed this month and the homicide total for the year in Juarez is near the 1,600 mark.

Details.

[But, they are more civilized, because they don't have the death penalty, right?]

Mexico more civilized? Certainly!

Nothing like Texas, which refuses to remove itself from the days of the old west, with people carrying guns around and criminals being executed. I hear some sheriff's still post people out of town. Big Grin

A single death is a tragedy, 1600 deaths is a statistic, to paraphrase Joseph Stalin. So the death penalty is a tragedy every time, while murder rates are just statistics. Therefore, the only real victims are the convicted murderers. Maybe the anti-DP folks have merely embraced the teachings of Uncle Joe?
