Actually doctors do write presciptions for alcohol. As a nurse I use to have a patient who had a presciption for 1-2 beers a day prn (as needed). The patient liked Shiner Bock and he never turned one down when I asked him if he wanted a drink. He usually got one once a week. It was a quality of life issue in the nursing home. It made his life a little better
