I need the short answer to the question of how long I must keep disposed felony files. We are in the process of remodeling our courthouse, and I am losing my storage area. With that in mind, I want to get rid of some old files. I want to keep them 10 years, so that I have the original file available should a probationer screw up. The state record retention schedule is making my head spin, so someone help me!

Feel free to give our records retention officer, Doug Arnold, a call. He has gone through the laws and put together our policy. He started with the same problem you describe. You can reach him at 512-943-1234.
