Cold Case Homicide Investigators got a familial DNA match on a subject just released from prison and this subject has a son who had connections to the homicide victim. We do not have a DNA sample for the son who now lives in San Antonio so we are unable to do surveillance in order to obtain a sample. Does anyone know of a case where familial DNA was used to get a search warrant and if so what additional factors were needed to obtain the warrant?

So my initial information was not correct, the suspect ran with the same crowd as the victim but we have no direct link between the two.
