My county (Johnson County) is located immediately south of Fort Worth. I did a salary survey last year of all of the counties that are contiguous to mine. The lowest pay was $30,000 and the highest was $50,000. I would also look at benefits (cost of dependent health insurance) and perks (take home car). I was pleasantly surprised to see that some counties had incentive pay for intermediate, advanced, and master peace officer certifications. I think this range is fairly representative of the state as a whole.

In Polk County (Livingston is the County Seat) ALL Investigators have a "County Ride" and the most Basic BLUE CROSS/Texas Association of Counties Insurance Package. Base Salary is $35,000.00 regardless. There are provisions for Certificate Pay up to $1,800.00 per year for Master Peace Officer. At Present there are no Increases for Advanced Education.
