Has anyone found these line of cases to be used in felony assault (family violence) cases?

If the stipulation only says the guy was convicted of assault on such-n-such date, are we restricted from mentioning the victim's name from the previous conviction? Wouldn't that be considered more probative than prejudicial if the victim in each subsequent assault was the same person? Or are we prejudicing the defendant by showing he's a repeat offender ?

If there has been domestic violence in the relationship, can't the victim testify to the nature of the relationship during an assault trial, thus making the necessity of pointing out the name of the current victim on the previous convictions irrelevant?
