David Laibovitz, an assistant district attorney who worked to make downtown safer and was adored by seemingly everyone he knew, died early Friday at his Central Austin home. He was 39 and had been battling cancer for the past few years.

His wife, Megan, said he died just after midnight as a clap of thunder sounded. The couple were married for 10 years and had two sons � Luke, 5, and Jake, 3.
