Any news on the judicial pay raise?

That would be directly proportional to any progress on the education issue.

That's how the math looks from here right now.

With the session closing today, has anyone heard anything about the school finance bill and the judicial pay raise. If they do flame out, will another special session be called?

Lt. Gov. Dewhurst announced a week or two ago that the Senate would not take up any business until a School Finance package was passed. Therefore, I would not hold my breath for the judicial pay raise if I were you. You will turn blue and pass out. Regarding whether another special session is called, I would predict another. Gov. Perry wisely (and I use that word facetiously) vetoed the budget for education. The math on school finance is No Action in Special Session = No School Next Fall. Gov. Perry needs to get some solution in place, and pray that the Supreme Court rules in a way that will uphold whatever new is in place. It will be politically disastrous for him to fumble the ball on education, especially if our schools cannot operate very long this fall because they run out of money. I have no prediction, however, on whether judicial pay raises will be on any future legislative calendar during any future special session.
