Anyone have a good story about a defendant trying to outwit the Intoxilyzer? Here's a doozy ... July 23, 2008 Drunken driver drinks Wite-Out while in police custody BY TODD COOPER OMAHA (NE) WORLD-HERALD Maybe he was trying to mask his breath. Maybe he needed something to wash down the burrito he had eaten. Maybe he just wanted to bleach his teeth. Whatever the case, as a repeat drunken driver sat waiting for Omaha police personnel to test his breath, he opened up a different bottle and drank. The substance? Wite-Out. Apparently fueled by liquid courage, Juan Briceno took a gulp of Liquid Paper or Wite-Out or whatever brand of chalky correction fluid that was sitting on an Omaha police desk. Why'd he have to use Wite-out? He was eating a burrito, and EVERYONE knows burritos cause the intoxilyzer to fail. Best I've got off the top of my head: people using their tongue to block the tube to make it appear that they're blowing when they're not.

I had one that wasn't trying to beat the machine, but was trying to beat the rap. She rolled around on the Intoxilyzer room floor for twenty minutes, banging her head into the wall and crying "rape" the whole time and telling the operator her lawyer was gonna gut him. The operator was trying so hard not to laugh. Guess she didn't realize it was all on tape. Judge took pity and gave her the regular deal even though she should have got the max.

A slightly different animal, but this is about cheating with an interlock device. This was an interlock where you have to blow and hum at the same time, and you have to do it every X minutes to keep the car running. This guy had rigged a funnel and a duck call to slip on the front of the mouthpiece. He'd get up to highway speed and stick it all out the window. It worked too until the P.O. wandered out to the parking lot and saw the gizmo laying there.
