I understand some DA's Offices have interdiction officers under their employ. Anyone know why a DA's Office couldn't retain ownership of a drug dog and assign it to a handler with a law enforcement agency in their area?

Be sure to buy a really big insurance policy. Only good faith immunity for investigative work.

Also, when acquiring a drug dog make sure you consider the rules that apply to the eventual retirement of that particular drug dog.

Much cleaner if the agency buys the dog on its own, even if you give them the money from an appropriate source.
