Does anyone really expect jury summons response to significantly rise because the pay is now $40 after day one? As always, the law of unintended consequences obtains. Instead of getting the list and questionaires the day before voir dire, lawyers will now get them a few hours or minutes before the selection process begins. Why? Because on day two, that fifty-person $300 panel will cost a cool two grand. But then again maybe it is a great idea. Anyone who will serve for $6 will serve for $40. If a person will serve for $40 but not for $6, I ain't interested.

Apparently, El Paso Co. saw an increase in compliance with jury summonses (summonsi? Wink ) when the county bumped theirs up to $40 a few years ago. But I don't remember how much it increased.
