Here is a link for the transcript of oral argument on the pending case involving whether police can talk to a child at school regarding abuse. The case arises from the 9th Circuit, always a clue that the decision was on the outer edges of the law. Looks much like the SCOTUS will be vacating the opinion as moot rather than reaching the merits. However, the Court seems clearly skeptical of the notion that an officer needed a search warrant to talk to a child or that, indeed, a seizure even takes place during such a conversation. | ||

The argument is perhaps most notable for the competition between Roberts and Scalia as to who could get the most laughs. Roberts appears increasingly jovial these days. | |||
