Inmate sentenced for murder plot


A Texas inmate already imprisoned for his role in a 1973 shooting spree in the Houston area was given a life sentence for trying to hire a hit man to kill a prosecutor and a former police officer.

The sentence means Larry Casey will probably never be a free man, according to prosecutors.

Casey had been serving a 99-year prison sentence for the shooting spree that left three people dead and injured two others, but he had been scheduled to be released in 2006 after getting good-time credit.

But in December, Casey tried to hire a hit man to kill Harris County Assistant District Attorney Bert Graham and former Houston police officer David Sheetz. Graham originally prosecuted Casey, and Sheetz arrested Casey in 1973 on unrelated charges.

A jury convicted him Thursday on two charges of solicitation of capital murder.

Casey, 52, was accused of fatally shooting 86-year-old Beulah Davis as she stood in front of her home, then killing 5-year-old Claire Patricia Jakubowski as she rode her bicycle and 10-year-old Jana Whatley as she was walking home from school. He was convicted in Davis' murder.

This guy was scheduled to get out in two years, after serving for so long, and he completely wrecked any chance he'd ever have of getting out after behaving himself as a model prisoner for all that time.

Talk about harboring a grudge! You'd think after waiting so long he'd have forgotten the name of the prosecutor.
