Last week, we got copies of a new book by TDCAA: Brady Duties & The Pre-trial Disclosure of Evidence. I've started reading it and wanted to congratulate Chip Wilkinson on yet another excellent book on ethics for prosecutors. Prosecutors take a lot of shots for mistakes made under the microscope that is the courtroom and in the media. But, my experience has been that prosecutors care very much about seeking justice. Brady obligations present some of the most difficult tasks for a prosecutor. Particularly for those bits of exculpatory information that are held in some other agency, such as the police department. Chip does a great job of explaining our duties and suggesting solutions to some problems. I strongly recommend that elected DA's make reading this book mandatory. We discuss parts of the book in our staff meetings. Thanks again to TDCAA and another great author. (Oh yeah, you also might thank the Court of Criminal Appeals, which approved the grant that made this book free to all prosecutors.) | ||
