Texas is one of the states that utilizes the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program (DECP) to combat drug impaired driving. The practitioners of the DEC Program are known as Drug Recognition Experts (DRE).

This program was coordinated by Texas A&M University (TEEX Law Enforcement Training) for many years, however it is now coordinated by Sam Houston State University.
