An interesting lawsuit has been initiated to force California to resume carrying out the death penalty: http://www.cjlf.org/releases/12-07.htm

I was wondering how they had standing to file this, but apparently there was a California Victim's Right Act passed a few years ago that gives victims independent standing to assert some charges. I'm very curious to see how this plays out.

In this case, a federal appeals court says the defendant's half-sister does not have standing to interfere with the defendant's desire for an execution. Makes for an interesting contrast to the California lawsuit: http://www.crimeandconsequence...LiftStayCA3_2012.pdf

I'm just amazed that court actually REissued the stay after being told to butt out by the Third Circuit.
