I just saw the obit on the home page that Dan Thornberry, an appellate attorney for the Bexar County D.A.'s Ofc. died a few days ago.

I never met the man in person, but over the years I called him many times with legal questions, some of which required an immediate answer. He never let me down, and he was always such a nice guy. He was also a real brain. On at least one occasion, the fact that Dan supported my view of the law was enough for the judge in a case I was trying to rule my way.

As a prosecutor in the boonies, I, like Blanche DuBois, must depend on the kindness of strangers, and call larger offices for advice from time to time. Dan was always one of he first I'd call, and he always answered.

God rest his soul.
