Is anyone familiar with the requirements of the federal Adam Walsh Act, as it relates to registration of Texas juvenile sex offenders?

The Legislature has not enacted a bill to comply with the new Adam Walsh Act (yet). SB 1740 by Shapiro is working it's way through the system and will probably pass, but until it does, the existence of the federal statute has no bearing on registrations in Texas. Interestingly, the Texas Legislature may choose not to comply with the Adam Walsh Act's extremely harsh requirements regarding juvenile registration. To see a current version of the bill (which will likely be considered in the House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee on Tuesday, May 15), click here: SB 1740 (engrossed version)
