Victim agrees to drive defendant to pharmacy to have prescription for methadone filled. As payment for the ride defendant gives victim a quantity of the methadone pills. Victim "eats" several pills at a party. Victim dies right after the party of methadone toxicity. Defendant confesses to giving victim the pills. No problem with confession. Victim talked about getting the pills from defendant earlier in the day. There was no information that victim had any other source for methadone at that time but is known by friends to have abused methadone in the past. Our Burnet crew is about to start a trial on Involuntary Manslaughter for these circumstances. Our DA would like to know if anyone else has tried a case of similar circumstances and had any suggestions for us. | ||
