Can you please give me your thoughts on the following hypothetical: Drug deal is being negotiated using a proven and reliable confidential informant. Bad guy shows CI a large amount of drugs but bad guy knocks off the officers doing surveillance before the deal is completed. Can the residence be secured by the officers pending obtaining a search warrant for the residence? Presumptively, the argument would be exigent circumstances, i.e. dope will be destroyed by the bad guy, but what determines exigency in these circumstances? Any thoughts/advice/information would be appreciated.
