Johnny OutOfState got arrested for Class B marijuana. He posted a cash bond and was never seen again. Six months after the arrest, a money order was sent to the Clerk for an odd amount of money (not enough for court costs or anything else). There was no return address on the envelope - just the defendant's name in the memo section of the money order. Mail sent to Johnny at the only address we have comes back undeliverable, so we can't return the money order. We have done a final on the NISI - what can we do with the "extra"? Lisa L. While the defendant might have wanted to make a donation to thank the county for how well he was treated, I think you need to forward the money to the State Comptroller of Public Accounts as unclaimed property. They have an e-mail address and are very helpful with such issues. unclaimed.property@cpa.state.tx.us | |||
