Can anyone recommend a good forensic psychiatrist? We have a death penalty case coming up and would like to have the defendant evaluated by one.

There is a psychologist named Phil Davis who is in Lubbock that does a lot of forensic evaluations. But, as well, you could call Brian Shannon over the Texas Tech School of Law and ask him who he knows personally.

Richard Coons, M.D., in Austin is a good doctor and a good witness. He's the doctor from the LaGrone decision and has testified in several death penalty cases. Let me know if you need his contact info.

Is excellent - he will call them as he sees them, and not with the arrogansce of the late "Dr. Death" (God rest his soul). Another excellent forensic psychologist is in Temple - Frank Pugliese. He is low key, objective and thorough. I don't know if he has ever testified in a capital case, but we relied on his judgment in a lot of criminal cases in Bell County.
