As the county attorney, my office prosecutes truancy/contempt cases for all schools in the county. We are wrestling with how to implement the new rules regarding truancy of 10-year-olds and 11-year-olds, the jurisdiction of which was moved from JP court and the Education Code to juvenile court and the Family Code. There are some disagreements on how to interpret the new Family Code sections, particularly when it comes to entering an order to attend school. I would like to know what are other affected counties doing; I would like to know very specifically the exact procedures that other affected counties are using. Thanks. | ||
