State Bar of Texas www.texasbar.com Several members have inquired about joining the Paralegal Division of the State Bar. Hope this information will be helpful. Once you get on the site - on the left hand side go to "Other Bar Groups", then scroll down to Divisions and click on "Paralegal Division" - there's lots of info on this site as well as how to join. You will not be certified, but you will be a member of the Paralegal Division. Once a quarter a free seminar is presented over the internet, you can print out a verification sheet and you receive .5 CLE Hours. The State Bar requires you to maintain 6 hours per year - the one class per quarter mention above adds up to two hours and you also can use two hours for self study leaving you with only two hours you need to get else where. The following list will be helpful - these are organizations you can also get CLE'S and Certification NALA - The National Association of Legal Assistants www.nala.org NALS - The Association for Legal Professionals TALP - Texas Association of Legal Professionals is affiliated with NALS www.texasalp.org NFPA - National Federation of Paralegals Association www.paralegals.org this group also offer the PACE Exam STOP - South Texas Organization of Paralegals, Inc.
