Does anyone know of authority for measuring distance of 1000 feet from residence to school or playground or whatever. Is it as the crow flies, door-to-door, property line to property or ??

There may not be any preferred (or single) method of measurement. Graves, 557 S.W.3d at 868. See also Curleee, No. 13-19-00237-CR (4/30/20); Watkins, No. 13-16-00387-CR (6/29/17); Toney, No. 05-13-00729-CR (2/5/14). It would seem to me that drug-free and offender-free (or child-safety) zones are equivalent. The property lines and "premises" were mentioned in Rickels v. State, 108 S.W.3d 900, 902-03 (Tex.Crim.App. 2003), but maybe not exactly how to get between the two points.

The methods used to prepare zone maps were described in Procella, No. 05-11-01290-CR (1/17/13).
