Reasons to be proud of David Newell

Question:
Why are you, as fellow prosecutors in this Great State of Texas, proud of Fort Bend County Assistant District Attorney David Newell, author of a great article in this months THE TEXAS PROSECUTOR on tactics to defeat Motions for New Trials.

I am proud of David for a number of reasons. When I was with Fort Bend, he was an excellent source of appellate and legal advice. Even now that I am elsewhere, he is still an excellent source.

I am also proud that he is now quoting Michael Stipe of REM instead of Tupac and other rappers who I know nothing about.

Finally, I was bowled over when I saw the picture of David behind his desk, which is on the first page of his article. During all the time I worked with David, I never saw his desk, only piles and piles of paper, records, motions, cases, etc sitting on top of it.

Though the article was excellent, David's reinvention of himself simply has to garner the highest marks. Shiny happy people, indeed.

With any luck, in the near future Newell may begin quoting Jagger and Richards, or in a best case scenario, McCartney/Lennon/Harrison/Starr.
