3 homicides, 4 suicides in the last 8 days in your more secure, more carefully guarded, non-violent Texas prison system.

Another bit of information that probably won't make it into your courtrooms: The latest prison killing (last night) was committed by a convicted capital murderer serving life without parole, out of Bexar Co. He was a G-3, living in general population with you guessed it, another convicted murderer, now the victim.

Obviously the problem is that the poor guys who have no hope of parole are just so emotionally depressed that they have no option but to lash out. The only practical solution is to eliminate LWOP.

Obviously, it isn't the inmates who are at fault. Somehow, the guards must be at fault for this violence. Because everyone knows that inmates are non-violent.

Was it self defense? | |||

Hey P.D., You might have inadvertantly - inadvertently - inadvertin..., happened upon - an interesting point: if a prison inmate kills another one in self defense, which has surely happened over the years, such a required course of action proves out what the defense tries to cover up. To defend oneself to the point of killing the other guy, means the other person was probably going to be the one the other convicts were at risk of danger from, ergo (never get to use that word) violence from within the system....

Come see the violence inherent in the system, come see the violence inherent in the system! Help, help- I'm being repressed!

Hence the use of the and the . It's a catch for someone defending the prisoner that is still alive.

An inmate at a federal prison in Merced County was charged Thursday with first-degree murder in the 2003 death of his cellmate. Shortly after a grand jury indictment against Samuel Richard Stone was filed in Fresno federal court, the government filed a notice that it will seek the death penalty. Details. [Why does it take 9 years to charge a capital murder that occurred in a cell with two people?]

Another one yesterday. Hey Frank & Larry -- another killing in your quiet penitentiary. That makes 4 this year and it's early April. By the way, Dr. S: the suspect in the killing (cellmate) is 49 years old -- one of your "older & gentler" convicts that you like to talk to juries about.

FYI: There is interesting "future danger" information in the Florence SCOTUS case from this last week, i.e., reference to 10K inmate assaults per year on correctional staff "and many more among" inmates themselves--and this is just in the fed pen as recorded back in 2003!

Number 6 Last night. Convicted murderer (3 counts) and one count of attempted murder - has been in since 1978, and he's 57 years old, forgot to age-out as the docs like to say. Killed his cellmate a 62 year-old G-4.

Christopher Dye, serial rapist from Travis County, with at least 14 aggravated sexual assaults behind his conviction (along with an aggravated robbery)pled guilty in the 202nd District Court of Bowie County yesterday, to killing his cellmate at the Telford Unit. He killed Gregorio Gomez, a convicted murderer, on July 29, 2010. Dye, offered 40 years, rejected that and pled to LWOP for the prison killing, a capital case due to his previous convictions.

Exactly the kind of people we need to release so they don't commit this kind of hi-eenous crime in prison!
