British Police Recruits Set Handcuff Record Posted: January 19th, 2007 03:25 PM EDT EMMA ROWLEY Press Association Newsfile Hundreds of police recruits today created a new world record for the highest number of people to be handcuffed together. A total of 305 recruits, officers and staff braved high winds to enter the Alternative Book of World Records at the Met Police's training centre in Hendon, north London. Meanwhile a team of officers were on standby to release the record breakers once their efforts had been confirmed by adjudicators. A police spokesman hailed the effort as a "new world record". He said: "It was a test of endurance for people standing out in the wind and the rain. "It was done in our lunchtime - it took about 25 minutes." Fortunately for participants, no keys went missing during the record attempt, he added.

I wasn't even aware that there exists an "Alternative Book of World Records". Would that be something that would include world records by musical acts such as Pearl Jam?
