Traffic violation??? Login/Join

Clearly it is a traffic violation to turn without using a turn signal. However, what it you are in a designated left turn only lane? Aren't you indicating your intent to turn simply by being in that lane? If it is a violation to NOT turn from a dedicated left turn only lane, then why would it be necessary to use a signal? Couldn't find any cases on point. Anyone else run across this one?

I don't think it matters that the driver is turning left from a "left turn only lane." What matter is the unambiguous language of the Transportation Code section 545.104: "an operator shall use the signal authorized by Section 545.106 to indicate an intention to turn, change lanes, or start from a parked position." There is no reference at all in the statute to any exemption if the person is turning from a "turn only" lane, whether left turn or right turn.
