One of our law enforcement agencies has had a citizen or two turn in firearms they no longer want, e.g., a widow who doesn't want her deceased husband's handgun in the house. Do we have authority to accept such firearms? How do we dispose of them? CCP art. 18.17 doesn't work well because we don't want to auction such firearms and CCP art. 18.19 doesn't apply as the firearms aren't seized. Any thoughts?

CCPD accepts them, as does our SO. They then get a court order to destroy them. --all I know--
