Based on considerations that are largely immaterial to this discussion, our sheriff's departement has decided to do away with the law library in our jail. In part, they have based their decision on what they say the Jail Standards Commission told them: "you don't have to have a library in the jail." I'm all too well aware of the requirements and nuances of Bounds v. Smith, Lewis v. Casey and their progeny. My question is a bit more pragmatic.

How does your county handle providing inmates with the materials to ensure "meaningful access to courts"?

We had books but we recently went to on-line research because it was less expensive.
