Suspect not new to car ramming officials say
Six people sent to hospital; charges filed for aggravated assault

By JIMMY ISAAC

Saturday, July 19, 2008

Four months after Texas highway patrolmen arrested Jessica Medford on charges that she rammed her then-husband's vehicle on Interstate 20, Rusk County deputies say she went after his new girlfriend the same way. As a result, six people are hospitalized four seriously, with one in intensive care.

Medford, 22, and 18-year-old Brittanie Annett Taylor remained in the Rusk County Jail on Friday on $225,000 bond each, charged with six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Rusk investigators Amber Rogers and William Brown say the Longview pair chased Brittny Keith across two counties before ramming Medford's Toyota Avalon into Keith's Cadillac, pushing Keith into a tree off U.S. 259 about 8 miles south of Kilgore.

Keith and five other passengers Dawson Foster and four juveniles suffered injuries, but investigators have not said where they are hospitalized or their ages.

The Lizard Man was innocent. The DNA test showed the culprit was a dog. Unfortunately, the story link is now dead.

I don't know . . . DNA isn't supposed to be reliable anymore. Just ask the L.A. Times.

Settlement will reduce carcinogens in potato chips
By RAQUEL MARIA DILLON, Associated Press Writer
Sat Aug 2, 1:23 AM ET

Snack lovers, rejoice: Munching on potato chips just got a little healthier.

Four food manufacturers agreed to reduce levels of a cancer-causing chemical in their potato chips and french fries under a settlement announced Friday by the state attorney general's office.

California sued H.J. Heinz Co., Frito-Lay, Kettle Foods Inc., and Lance Inc. in 2005, alleging they violated a state requirement that companies post warning labels on products with carcinogens.

A grand jury indicted a nearly half-ton, bedridden woman Thursday in the death of her 2-year-old nephew. Mayra Lizbeth Rosales, 27, was indicted on one count of first-degree murder and on one count of injury to a child in the death of Eliseo Gonzalez Jr. Rosales previously had been charged with capital murder.

The grand jury indicted her after a full autopsy confirmed investigators' suspicions that the child died March 18 because he had been struck. Investigators believe the toddler was struck at least twice, crushing his head.

Suspected car burglar gets a dirty dumping

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- A 22-year-old suspected truck burglar made a dirty mistake after he tried to hide inside a portable toilet on Saturday. Tampa police said the man broke into two pickup trucks at a parking lot and the owner of the second truck fought the suspect and chased him to a nearby construction site.

The suspect tried to hide in the Port-O-Let, but the victim found him and turned it over, covering him in huge amounts of human waste.

Officials: Burglar wakes men with spice rub, sausage whack

FRESNO, California (AP) -- Authorities say they've arrested a man who broke into the home of two California farmworkers, stole money, rubbed one with spices and whacked the other with a sausage before fleeing.

Fresno County sheriff's Lt. Ian Burrimond says 22-year-old Antonio Vasquez was found hiding in a field wearing only a T-shirt, boxers and socks after the Saturday morning attack.

As Paul Harvey might say, here's the rest of the story.

I wonder if the reporter had ever had the opportunity to use the phrase "slathered in spice" in reference to a crime before.

It sounds like the opening of a Howard Stern stunt.

"So this guy's hiding in the weeds with an 8 inch sausage after whacking a man in the face with it and rubbing spices in the eyes of another."
